Well you catch me right at the beginning of getting my life back together. For those that follow me on face book you may recall last week saying that I was a stone over my running weight of 10st 4lb. Gone are the abs that I proudly used to have at 50 years old ,replaced by a paunch bought on by lots of chocolate eating and a knee injury sustained whilst trying to get back to running 2 years ago.
The knee injury was a result of running on the beach. Ironically despite my wealth of athletic experience I thought it would be the best thing to do to ease myself back in on a soft surface. HOW WRONG WAS I! After about 3/4 weeks I could hardly walk. The pain was excruciating and wasn’t made any better by a job where I was standing still ALL day in front of a bench. The reason I had fallen down the wayside in the first place was health related. On the eve of my first ever marathon in which I was hoping for a 3 1/2 hour run at 50 years old I was the victim of a coeliac attack. I nearly ended up in hospital and even then at about 5 hours before the start I was still determined to run. It was not to be. It ended my motivation for 7/8 months and then the beach saga. Hence I have not really exercised for about 2 3/4 years now. It’s hit me hard.
Then I take the bull by the horns. about 2 months ago I complained to my doc that things were just Not getting better. I’ve been concentrating on getting my art business up and running and standing on a hard kitchen floor at the computer has actually nigh on crippled me at times. Eventually I got my physio appt. She asked what I wanted and I told her I would love to run again. No problem she said .That was 3 weeks ago and she’s got me out of pain.I can walk fairly comfortably again and it’s even more of a pleasure now that we have Hunni.
Anyway yesterday I went to the physio knee group at North Walsham. This see me at the start of some knee exercise, I cannot believe how weak and unfit I’ve become. However I now have an excitement in my feelings for the first time in 3 years. I can walk and now I’m exercising .The knee needs strengthening. Day on yesterday,15/8/15. All being well I intend to run another half marathon in Sept next year and a marathon maybe at the end of 16 or 2017.
I started with some very light knee exercise. It was amazing…for want of a better word….how it had affected my knee but I can see how this is going to work. Today I did the exercises again…I love it! EXCITED..YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! It’s going to be a long and fairly hard haul and not without it’s setbacks I reckon. A bit like the art,but you all know me..I wont give up. I will keep you informed of my progress in my blogs. I hope it will inspire you to all try or keep going to reach your own particular goals. Now I have something other than my art to talk about….life is hopefully on the up all the way round. It’s been a hard long slog but a bit of sunshine may be round the corner. Like the pictures I try to create I hope there is now some beauty to look at. I cannot wait for the first run. I’ll keep you posted.
All this in time for my workshops at Heydon and The Wind Museum Repps. I now feel like I can inspire and create and help others to see the bigger picture so to speak.Exciting, exhilarating and more that I really ever expected I would be up to ever again.Sport has never been far from my life and at the age of 50 I found it was MY TIME! I excelled at running and was dealt a very cruel blow when it was taken away.
I’ve added personal products with your own images to my site and lots more with my artwork on. I hope you like them and don’t forget,if you want a quality product with my or your own artwork on I’m your man lol!
till next time, peace and happiness to you all
